Props:
In terms of props for our opening sequence, we have split up the organisation between the two other group members and I. I have been given the talk of organising the props for the final boss scene at the end of our sequence, this scene will display him as an older, respected member of the mob/mafia and will give a vague and dark portrayal of him.
what do we need?
Signet ring (1)
Cristal glass (2)
Bottle of whisky (3)
Scar make up (4)
Wired land line (5)
What have I done to organise this?
1) For the signet ring I have ordered a fake signet ring, as the real ones are made from real gold and this would be unnecessary for our project. Blow is a picture of the ring it will be used multiple times throughout our sequence on different characters not just the final boss.
Why?
I have made this choice as it is cheap and looks like a real authentic ring with what looks to be a family crest, as should be present. As this ring will be used on multiple characters in our sequence and will worn on the Pinky finger. The choice for us to use the signet ring is because it links into the old British aristocratic family system that we would like to use to show the prominence and history of Uk organised crime.
2) For the crystal glass, my father has a crystal glass that we could use in our sequence, if we did not have one available, we would likely use a fake one, as the real ones are very expensive.
Why?
This glass be on a table next to the boss and is used to display wealth. He will be drinking what looks to be whiskey in this glass to further present his calmness after having someone killed moreover presenting the dark minds of some of these mob bosses and giving the audience an insight into their daily life and processes.
3)
For the bottle of whiskey, I will bring a bottle from my home with my parents' permission. The bottle will be empty, and we will fill it with a liquid such as apple juice that will give the illusion of whisky. The bottle will be sat right next to the glass as the only two things on the table.
Why?
We have chosen to use a bottle of whisky as is shows the characters maturity, it also highlights lots of themes related to how people use drugs such as alcohol to block out trauma like what a mob boss would likely have under all the external ‘hard man’ persona.
4) The scar make up will not just be used on the boss it will be used on the hit man as well, simply just a bottle of liquid the tightens the skin giving the illusion of a scar. I have made a previous blog post detailing the whole process of applying this make up. As its being used in other areas of the sequence my peer Georgie who has been assigned the hitman will be organising this. Below is an example product that will be purchased for our sequence.
Why?
We are using scars as it shows history, and we wish to present these characters as well-established characters in a cinematic universe. The scars also have a close link to violence that is a main theme in our sequence and in the mafia and history of organised crime.
5) The wired land line will be on the table next to the boss and is how he receives the hit confirmation in his short scene. The school theatre department has a prop phone we could use, if this does not work, we will order one from amazon such as the one below.
Why?
The use of a landline gives the idea that he is at home in his element, it also shows that he is very confident/cocky as he will happily receive a hit confirmation of his land line shows the prominence and power of organised crime. Moreover, the choice not to use a mobile phone is that it makes the character more old fashion and classy as he lounges in his living room.
