Costume

Costume:

In terms of costume for our opening sequence, we have split up the organisation between the two other group members and I. I have been given the talk of organising the costume for the final boss scene at the end of our sequence, this scene will display him as an older, respected member of the mob/mafia and will give a vague and dark portrayal of him. Moreover, he will be dressed very smarty as will the other characters as his class is subtly suggested.

What do we need?

  • breasted suit with tie (without jacket, just waist coat) (1)

  • Smart black shoes (2)

  • Pocket square (3)

What have we done to organise this?

1) For the suit, the actor we have selected to play this character is also a teacher and they will be asked to bring in a suit, this will consist of suit trousers that are not very important as they will likely not be seen. A white shirt with waist coat and tie, the suit jacket will still be asked for encase on the day if we decide that it better if so, this is when the pocket square will be used. I will bring Spare white shirts in case there Is a mix up with the actors, as well as a few ties and so we can play around with what looks best with the environment. The colour of the suits will either be black, grey or a dark blue potentially pin striped.

Why?

These types of clothing, show stasis within the sequence, as this is the boss it's important that we correctly portray him as this otherwise it may be unclear to the audience. There are also lots of connections attached to these types of clothing gin the context of the sequence that relate to the mafia. Furthermore, the use of just the waistcoat will show him to be relaxed as he is drinking whisky so for him to have the whole suit on may look off at the time.

2) The black Lether shoes are not as important as they likely not be seen as the boss will be filmed from behind sitting on a sofa, but they are still apart of the costume. The character will bring in a pair of shoes that fir the costume if not I will bring a few spares of spares from my house encase the shot changes on the day making them more of a focus point.

Why?

The shoes add to the outfit as they would be very clean as our character takes pride in himself and is also very important therefore smart shiny shows connote this even if they end up not being shown.

3) The pocket square will either sit in the waistcoat or in the jacket pocket depending on what we decide to do on the day. I have a few pocket squares personally that I will bring in for the day of shooting. Below is an example of how it would sit in the waist coat and/or jacket.

Why?

The pocket square is important as it will go in the waistcoat and will give the slightly relaxed ethos of the scene a shape feature, as it shows that even while kicking back in his living room drinking, he still takes that much pride that we have a perfectly folded pocket square in his pocket.
