My group and I attempted to create our opening sequence with what we could find at handy, although the test shoot does not engage the same way we hope the real thing to, it did show the sequence of events and proved to us that this idea can be engaging if done correctly. As can be seen below what is meant to be a car is a few desks and chairs, this is how we feel we failed to get the same engagement as the real thing.
Our idea was well under the targeted time of two minutes, this is because on the day the shots will be dragged out to show ethos of the scene. Moreover, we didn't get as much footage as desired, but we do feel we can reach the time with our idea, as there are even shots, we missed such as the last shot of the boss pouring a glass of whisky and drinking it to then put it down ending the scene. The test shoot length was 51 seconds, but we feel confident of our idea fitting the target.
I also feel the pace of the scene was a bit off linking to the time target, towards the beginning of the test shoot the shots are trimmed together rather quickly, quicker than we intended and upon the real shoot day and in post-production this period of our sequence will be much more dragged out. Furthermore, the death scene was a bit short, and we will drag this out a bit as overall our aim was not to create our full sequence I, but to give us a slight idea of what it will look like.
We feel the general plot of someone being killed in a car by an order was clear, but not in the sense of the whole storyline, this due to many denotations not being there that would suggest certain connotations about the sequence, for example the costumes and actors do not represent out theme in any way and the general feel of test shoot may be clear but not in the detailed way we intend to suggest certain things such as British values with the signet rings. An example of this is the gun, instead of an actual gun it’s a spray bottle giving off the wrong signals to the audience.
We feel that we did manage to create tension, through the scenes with mirrors that are supposed to be car mirrors, showing close ups of eyes and the feeling of being watched, create the tension intended for the sequence, to suggest to the audience that something bad is going to happen like someone being
shot.
The camera angles and movements have worked well for the most part, one thing I would add is in shots such as the final boss one when we intend to zoom or move the camera in on tracks, to do this very slowly, as on the test shoot day when rewinding the footage, I saw some movement that was a little quick for the atmosphere we are trying to create.
Overall, I think that the way we layer out the events worked very well, but the pace in the beginning will be slower as well as adding more scenes to the last boss bit to introduce them more ominously, as they are the boss and need to be portrayed in that way. I think the way the death happened may need some different angles especially with the phone call confirming the kill as it seems out of place as we want to connect the backseat to the front seat as now there is a feel of disconnect between them.
