For my production group and I’s idea we will have forms of violence Aswell as a certain character who will display mysterious and scary attributes. Through this we have decided that we will use special effects make up to show wounds and scars in order to accurately display our vision onto the screen through connotations attached to these features. 

 

Fake wounds 

Steps to applying fake wound make up: 

1. Apply Ben Nye Spirit Gum to the area intended for area in question 

2. Then tap the area to make it tacky (ready when skin starts to lift with finger) 

3. Then take Ben Nye Nose and Scar Wax, and Mold into shape of desired wound 

4. Place moulded max over area rubbed with spirit gum (blend it into the skin to make it look seamless) 

5. Then take no colour translucent powdered dab over the wound in order to colour over it 

6. Apply foundation over the wound to blend it in  

7. Then use a sponge with a colour pallet to create the illusion of irritation around the wound (red or darker purple around the edge for example) 

8. Then make a slit through the scar wax in the desired shape 

9. Add colouring like step 7 inside the wound (make think so that it stands out) 

10. Dap around wound to blend also potentially adding darker browns and purple to further bruise the area 

11. Take fake blood and apply directly to the wound until satisfied with the result. 

 

 

It's important to note that some of the products mentions in this tutorial are sponsored brand specific products, therefore I would like to mention that there are many similar products out on the market used to do the same thing that are not necessarily made by ‘Ben nye”. 

 

Fake scars 

Steps to applying fake scars: 

 

1. Take lip stick and apply to a lip brush then plotting on the area of desired scaring 

2. Take Rigid Collodion ("Scarring Liquid" is a clear solution created for Special Effects Makeup) on a brush and apply over lip stick trail 

3. Apply different layers giving time in-between to dry (as it tightens the skin further giving the look of a scar) 

4. Scar will start to look 3D as the solution dry's as seen below 

 

 

5. You then want to take the shine away using skin completion matching powder 

6. Then use concealer to fade it depending on how fresh you would like the scar to appear
